The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said that Islamabad has accepted India's definition of terrorism for the first time if seen in the context of the joint statement read out by the two foreign secretaries after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of an SCO conference, and said it provides a 'glimmer of light' for relations between the two countries.
"For the first time, Pakistan has accepted our definition of terrorism, which is, that terrorism in all its forms is unacceptable. Pakistan has tried to play a nuanced game on this subject, trying to differentiate between good terrorism and bad terrorism. Our stand has been consistent, that there is nothing called good terrorism. Terrorism in all its forms is undiluted, unmitigated evil. Pakistan has accepted in writing that terrorism in all its forms is unacceptable," BJP spokesperson M J Akbar told media persons.
"On 26/11, Pakistan has accepted that the case must be expedited. This is an important concession made by Pakistan and we hope that this concession will now be implemented. Along with this, Pakistan has accepted the voice samples, the evidences in 26/11 case. Now that Pakistan has accepted this, there is a glimmer of light in the bilateral relationship," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif, who held bilateral talks in Ufa, Russia, have agreed to cooperate with each other to eliminate terrorism from South Asia, noting that both sides have a collective responsibility to ensure peace.
The Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan, S Jaishankar and Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, briefed the media after the bilateral talks ended.
The talks between Prime Minister Modi and Sharif took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
