The Pakistan High Commission has requested the Ministry of External Affairs to release the remaining nine fishermen and grant counsellor access to 19 others, according to sources.

The request was made so that the nationality of the fishermen can be verified as per Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promise that all fishermen will be released, according to sources.

India released and repatriated 88 Pakistani fishermen lodged in the jails in Gujarat on Friday. The fishermen have been released so that they can be with their family members during the holy month of Ramzan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan repatriated 113 Indian fishermen via Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post. They were released from Pakistan's Malir Jail on Thursday and handed over to the Indian authorities.
