Pakistan is home to the world's second largest refugee population, hosting as many as 1.5 million refugees, after Turkey, which has provided shelter to 1.59 million Syrian refugees, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said.

Shah Ahmed Saeed, Consul General of Afghanistan, said that it was 'alarming' to see the surge in violence and the emergence of new conflicts, compelling large number of people to flee their homeland and seek refuge with other countries. Terming the trend an 'international catastrophe,' he called for global attention, reports the Dawn.

It was also found that Syria was producing the largest number of refugees globally due to the ongoing conflict.
