Australia managed to pull off a series whitewash against Pakistan as the hosts were unable to claim victory in the third and final ODI losing it by one run, despite needing just two runs to win from the final over.
Australia's win had been overshadowed by a bizarre catch taken by Steve Smith and the sight of David Warner limping off the field in Sunday's dead-rubber.
Smith top-scored with 77 in Australia's 9-231 before Pakistan was bowled out for 230 despite the hosts needing just two runs to win from the last six balls, News.com.au reported.
All-rounder Glenn Maxwell was the hero with a double-wicket maiden in the final over for Australia, who sealed a 3-0 series whitewash. The final encounter completed a horror series for Pakistan, with their captain Misbah-ul Haq not playing in the dead-rubber after coming under intense pressure back home for the side's poor performances.
Earlier in the match Smith sprinted from slip to leg slip to take a simple catch as Pakistan left-hander Fawad Alam faced Xavier Doherty during the 18th over. The catch caused some confusion but the umpires ruled Alam out and the batsman went for a duck. ustralia weren't celebrating during the 35th over however as Warner limped off the field after a consultation with team physio Alex Kountouris. Warner could be in doubt for the first Test on October 22.
The opener, who rubbed his thigh before going off, may have joined uncapped all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is down with a hamstring, on Australia's injury list ahead of the Dubai Test.
Choosing to bat first on a flat-looking pitch, Australia had struggled to score freely and relied heavily on Warner, who scored 56, and number three Smith, who managed to score 77 off the 105 deliveries he faced.

Allrounder James Faulkner hit 33 and Smith added 40 for the seventh wicket before Smith was bowled by Sohail Tanvir, who delivered match figures of 3 for 40 with the total on 199.
Smith's 77 gave him an average of 63.33 for the series after his match-winning 101 in game one in Sharjah and 12 in Dubai.
Ahmed Shehzad, who hit 26, and Sarfraz Ahmed, who scored 32, shared a 56-run opening stand and Asad Shafiq made 50 at number three.
All-rounder Shahid Afridi, who scored six, failed for the third time in the series while Sohaib Maqsood hit 34 and Umar Amin hit 19 that kept Pakistan in the game.
In further controversy, Pakistan's tailender Zulfiqar Babar appeared to be run out for a duck but the umpires failed to seek a video review, which left Australia captain George Bailey scratching his head. Babar was unbeaten on 14 in a match for Pakistan, the report added.
