Pakistan Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has said that the existing blasphemy law should not be amended as the country's penal code already has sections which dealt with sentences for those who misused any law.
The CII said that a judge could resort to those relevant sections to award sentences, the Daily Times reports.
The council also said accepting DNA test as primary evidence in rape cases could be considered, but a court of law could decide on the case when it was used with other evidences as a supporting material.
The council rejected the Women's Protection Act of 2006 as its provisions were not in line with Islamic injunctions.
