Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker Abdul Rashid Godil was shot at and wounded on Tuesday by motorcycle-riding unidentified gunmen here.
His driver was killed in the incident, Karachi Police said, adding that Godil was attacked while travelling in his car.
Karachi's Deputy Inspector General of Police Munir Shaikh was quoted, as saying, that Godil received multiple gunshot wounds and the same was being treated.
The MQM has asked provincial and law enforcement officials to probe the incident thoroughly.
The MQM has been a dominant political force in Karachi for decades, and at times, has spearheaded violent attacks to establish its authority over other rival factions and the people of the city.
