In the wake of the ongoing political protests in Pakistan, the country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif at the Prime Minister House to discuss and find a solution to put an end to the political turmoil plaguing the nation.
A brief statement issued after the meeting said there was a consensus on the need to resolve the ongoing issue expeditiously in the best national interest.
According to the Dawn, the duo had a discussion on matters pertaining to ongoing political protests in Islamabad.
The report further said that both the prime minister and the army chief agreed to immediately resolve the political dead end.
Earlier, Pakistan's Jamaat-i-Islami ( JI) chief Sirajul Haq said that the third round of discussions between Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Prime Minister's party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ( PML-N) proved to be successful.
Haq said that the efforts made by PTI and their supporters need to be commended as they prevented violence during the protests.
He also said that PTI was now more practical in their demands, which were a positive sign to curb the ongoing political crisis.
The Dawn reported that PTI was now considering the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for a period of 30 days until the May 2013 general elections were verified by the court.
