A senior Pakistani official has dismissed reports that Islamabad would curb its nuclear weapons program in return for a civil nuclear energy deal with the United States.

According to The Express Tribune, the official said, on the condition of anonymity, that Pakistan is seeking civilian nuclear technology, but it does not mean that the country will put limitations on its nuclear weapons programme.

According to an opinion piece published by The Washington Post, US journalist David Ignatius said that US is exploring possible new limits and controls on Pakistan's nuclear weapons and delivery systems.

Such a deal, Ignatius said, may gradually open a path toward a Pakistani version of the civil nuclear deal that was launched with India in 2015.
