A data released by the social media network on Tuesday reveals that Pakistani government's censoring of content that is considered blasphemous or critical of the state on social media website Facebook has increased by 968 percent in the first half of 2014 in comparison with the second half of 2013.

According to Facebook data, the government has increasingly started making requests for inquiry on specific users' data on Facebook accounts that saw a 240.3 percent increase from last six months of 2013 to the first half of 2014.

The government sent 116 requests for inquiry on 160 users between January and June of 2014. However, Facebook provided data for only 35.34 percent of cases.

Facebook Inc said requests by governments for user information have risen by about a quarter in the first half of 2014 over the second half of last year, reported the Express Tribune.

The social media network authorities also said that each and every request is checked for legal sufficiency wherein requests that are vague are rejected or sent back seeking more specificity.
