A report released by the United States Department said that Pakistan's constitution curbs religious freedom and forbids Ahmadis from practicing their religion.
An annual report released by the state department on international religious freedom noted that although Pakistan's constitution states that every citizen is allowed to practice his/her religious beliefs without any restriction yet there are other laws and provisions that curb this right, the Dawn reported.
The report came just a day after a mob killed two Ahmadis in Gujranwala in Pakistan.
The nation's constitution states clearly, Ahmadis are not Muslims and are prohibited from calling themselves Muslims or their religion Islam. They are also not allowed to preach and propagate their religion or insult the feelings of the Muslim community, the report noted.
Violation these laws may call for an imprisonment up to three years and a fine.
