Taking a dig at Pakistan Supreme Court, country's former ambassador to United States Hussain Haqqani on Thursday underscored that the apex court has become a "political institution."

"Pakistan Supreme Court has become a political institution and an instrument for Pakistan's establishment, comprising of military and intelligence services. This is an attempt to harass me," said Husain Haqqani after the court issued a warrant against him in connection with 2011 Memogate scandal.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued an arrest warrant against Haqqani.

"Now to say, just because I have refused to come out of concerns for my personal security to the SC in a hearing of a petition and not a criminal case and trying to get warrants issued against me is absurd. I don't think this warrant will have any affect on my life," Haqqani added.

Earlier in the day, he took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

"Sad that highest court of #Pakistan persists with such antics for local TV news coverage. Such political 'warrants' have not been honoured abroad in the past, won't work now," he tweeted.

Earlier in September 2017, Haqqani's portrait was removed from the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.

He served as Pakistan's ambassador to the United States from 2008 to 2011.
