Pakistan will reportedly seek a bigger role for United Nations military observers deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) as its Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) meets his Indian counterpart on December 24.

Pakistan will urge India to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to work freely, so that it can effectively ensure ceasefire on both sides of the LoC, the Express Tribune reports.

A Pakistani official said that India has highly restricted the movement of UN military observers, but they have given unhindered access to them on their side of the LoC, the report added.

UNMOGIP was established in 1949 under the resolution passed by the world body's Security Council to supervise ceasefire along the LoC.
