Pak slams Utah gun maker's claim of rejecting rifles contract as 'baseless'

Pakistan has slammed the claim made by a Utah-based gun manufacturer, terming it "baseless," that it turned down a 15 million dollars deal to supply the country with precision rifles.

A spokesman of the Pakistani embassy in Washington said that Desert Tech never even made it to the shortlist for the contract, though the company had shown interest in securing the deal initially, Dawn News reports.

Mike Davis, sales manager at Desert Tech, had said last Thursday that the company rejected the opportunity due to unrest in Pakistan and ethical concerns that the weapons might be used to attack the United States.

The embassy spokesperson further said that the company clearly violated its ethical responsibility by fabricating a story that at best is a publicity stunt.
