Pakistan has successfully tested the intermediate range Hatf IV (Shaheen I-A) ballistic missile with a range of 900 kilometres, a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
Shaheen I-A missile is an upgraded version of the indigenously developed and one of the most accurate missile systems, Shaheen I. It has a longer range in comparison to its predecessor and the capacity to carry nuclear and conventional warheads measuring up to 1,000 kilograms, reported the Dawn.
The missile's impact point was in the Arabian Sea.
While congratulating the scientists and engineers for their dedication, professionalism and commitment towards achieving a full spectrum credible minimum deterrence capability for Pakistan, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah reiterated the nation's desire to co-exist "peacefully" in the region.
The successful test launch was also lauded by President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The launch comes days after India test-fired a nuclear-capable cruise missile, Nirbhay, with a range of over 700 km, from Balasore in Odisha state.
