Pakistan High Commissioner visits Jama Masjid

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit visited Jama Masjid at the invitation of Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari and had Iftar there.

Addressing the congregation after the Maghrib prayer, the Pakistan High Commissioner underlined the unique spirit of Islam which was universal and embedded in love, peace and justice for all.

He said that the Holy month of Ramadan was a special occasion for all Muslims as it provided a great opportunity for introspection and correction both individually and collectively.

Basit conveyed to Indian Muslims felicitations on behalf of the people of Pakistan and wished them Eid greetings in advance.

Talking about Pakistan-India relations, Basit said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was committed to normalisation of relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest.

He hoped that with the resumption of bilateral dialogue things would move forward in all areas as articulated by the two Prime Ministers in their meeting in New Delhi on May 27.

Earlier, welcoming the High Commissioner, Imam Bukhari also hoped for better relations between Pakistan and India. He also commended Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his visit to New Delhi during which he also visited the Jama Masjid.

This was the first time that a High Commissioner for Pakistan was invited for Iftar at the Jama Masjid and addressed the congregation.

The High Commissioner was warmly greeted by the people attending Maghrib prayer. He also mingled with the public and responded them by shaking hands.

Basit was accompanied by Obaid ur Rahman Nizamani, Head of Chancery and Manzoor Ali Memon, Press Counselor of the High Commission.
