The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Punjab group has welcomed the Nawaz Sharif Government's recent offer to hold peace talks to stop the years-long bloodshed.
TTP Punjab chief Ismatullah Muaweea said if the present government is taking an interest in resolving matters seriously, then there was no reason for jihadi forces not to respond to it positively, the Daily Times reports.
Muaweea's faction, which is a sub-group of the TTP umbrella group, said the 'government has reacted maturely', in a statement distributed in the main town of South Waziristan tribal district bordering Afghanistan.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had made the offer of peace dialogue to the extremists in a speech on Monday, the report added.
Meanwhile, the main TTP militant group based in northwestern tribal belt, along the Afghan border, was yet to respond to the call.
