Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar met the three service chiefs on Monday and assured them of speedy procurement of defence equipment.
He also expressed his concern over the recent naval accident involving the sinking of the torpedo recovery vessel off the coast of Vishakapatnam.
Before meeting the service chiefs, Parrikar had visited Lucknow to file his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections.
In Lucknow, he said that as Defence Minister, it would be his endeavour to see that India is never defenceless, but added that at the same time, it would be his responsibility to maintain relationships with neighbouring countries.
