Making a direct attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that the leaders who say that they could change the country within 60 months were making fun of people and that it was a laughable statement.
"It is laughable that they say they will do in 60 months, what the Congress did in 60 years. It is not because of the Congress, but the people of the country who worked hard for these years to take the country forward." said Gandhi, while addressing a rally in Guwahati.
The Congress vice president said there were two types of leaders, "those who give power to the people and those who take power away from the people."
"I am the type who gives power to the people," he said.
He further said that the Congress did not believe in promoting hatred as the party was based on love and peace.

"Gandhiji had taught us that revolution can be brought about through peace," and added, "Our party is a party of peace and not of hatred," said Gandhi.
"Don't raise 'murdabad' slogans for opposition or show anger; let them do it if they want. We are a peaceful party," he said.
"People who have arrogance and anger in them will be eradicated, as India is a land of love and peace," he added.
He also said that the Right to Information Act was the most historical tool till date to fight corruption.
"Corruption takes place because of too much concentration of power, but the RTI is the most historical tool to fight corruption," said Gandhi.
"In the last 10 years of UPA rule, we gave you National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), which gives you the right to work. We also enacted the Right to Information. And last year, we passed the food security act, which assigns a right to food to the people," he said.
"As part of the rights-based approach, we have granted certain minimum rights to people in the realm of food, informational and work. The people have now been given minimum guarantees, in health, in education, and in security," he added.
