The passenger bus of Tripura's Road Transport Corporation left for Kolkata from Agartala's international bus terminus on Wednesday morning as part of the trial run of the direct bus between the two cities.

The passengers included an eight-member delegation led by Tripura Government's Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik.

"I am very happy and accelerated; it's a great privilege for me that I am leading the team of trial run of the bus service from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka. This is opening a new chapter of tourism, connectivity with Bangladesh and mainland states of India as far as Tripura is concern," said Bhowmik.

Expressing satisfaction over the new bus service, the passengers said that it would go a long way in resolving the problems of the people travelling from Tripura to West Bengal.

"It is really exciting personally to be one of the passengers in the first trial run from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka. Last night, I was in half sleep due to this excitement," said Ratan Biswas, a passenger.

The new direct bus service via Dhaka would greatly reduce the time and distance of travel between Agartala and Kolkata.
