The first India-wide marketplace enabling food ordering for travelers, TravelKhana.com has projected data highlighting that apart from proper meals, nearly 39 percent railway travellers prefer to order snacks, light meals and sweets during their journey.
TravelKhana, which has integrated its services with the IRCTC website, makes it possible for travelers to get access to lip-smacking fare prepared by the various restaurants selected and verified by TravelKhana.com personnel.
The recent data released by the online food-ordering marketplace records eight percent sales in Rasmalai and four percent sales in Jaljira Drink from Itarsi Junction, seven percent sales in Gulab Jamun and two percent sales in Kaju Barfi from Ganguram in Rourkela.
The rest of the items in demand include four percent sales in Khowe Ki Jalebi and three percent sales in Rabri from Jabalpur, three percent sales in Lassi and Dal Kachori each from Sawai Madhopur Junction, three percent sales in Samosa from Katni and two percent sales of Ghosh sweets Rasogulla from Katihar.
"An essential part of enjoying a journey by train is getting indulgent with snacks and light meals, and this is the trend that our data seems to have highlighted. Although we give access to meal options from an elaborate menu from restaurants across the country, our data shows that a significant number of passengers' bookings are primarily made for light meals and sweets," said CEO and Co-founder, TravelKhana, Pushpinder Singh.
"This makes it quite evident that Indians love to relish their desi snacks and sweet meats in the company of friends and family and reserve a special fondness for Gulab Jamuns, Rasmalais, Samosas, Kachoris and Kaju Barfi," said Pushpinder.
Railway Passengers are required to simply click on the 'Food on Track' tab on the IRCTC website while booking their train tickets and select the meal of their choice. This assures them of having delicious food delivered by TravelKhana right at their berth at the station which they choose during the booking process.
