'Pattern' of Pak to violate ceasefire in winters: Major Gen Sinho

In light of Pakistan resorting to heavy firing along the International Border at Jammu and Kashmir's RS Pura Sector, Major General (retd.) S.R. Sinho on Friday termed the activities of the troops across the border as their 'pattern' to violate the ceasefire during the winter, because weather conditions make it difficult for militants from the Islamic State to infiltrate India.

"They have been firing very heavily on villages. Now, this is a pattern of Pakistanis to violate the ceasefire [agreement] during winters at the International Border because the infiltration in the [Kashmir] Valley is not effective," Major Gen Sinho told ANI.

"Instructions have been issued by our Defence Minister and our Home Minister, to give a suitable reply to Pakistanis and they are equally suffering because of the serious actions that the BSF is taking on the border," he added.

Major Gen Sinho also pointed out that that the recent ceasefire violation can be because of the insecurity that may have aroused after US President Obama's visit to India.

"After Obama's visit, Pakistan has realised that India and US have become very close. And, there is a feeling of insecurity among the Pakistani leaders and its army," he said.

"As a result of that, just two days after Obama's visit the Army chief visited China, which declared that [Islamabad is Beijing's] 'close friend' in all times. Pakistan has been encouraged by this statement of Chinese. This may be another factor," he added.

On Thursday, three civilians were injured in heavy firing along the International Border.

As per sources, the forces from across the border started unprovoked firing around 8 pm on Thursday evening, targeting Indian forward posts and civilian areas.

BSF troops retaliated to the firing.

The injured have been admitted to GMC Hospital, Jammu.
