British singer Paul McCartney has recently admitted of having a weaker understanding of offensive words and slangs as a kid.

In an interview, the 73-year-old musician admitted that as a kid it was normal to be "racist" and use certain words that he wouldn't use now, reports E!Online.

The 'Mull of Kintyre' hit-maker added that he later realized it is "denigrating" and thought " how it would make the people you were talking about feel."

The former bassist of the rock band 'The Beatles' further said that the change in his behaviour came over time.

Interestingly, McCartney also noted that he understands why artists like Kanye West, his recent recording partner, use slang in their music, adding that when artists like him use "the n-word" it sounds like a term of "endearment" and "takes the sting out of it.
