Former Pakistani captain and coach Moin Khan has reportedly been appointed as the chief selector of the national team, while batting legend Zaheer Abbas was selected for the role of advisor to the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Khan was the coach and Abbas was the batting consultant of the teams, which recently failed to defend its Asia Cup title and also could not make it to the semifinals of World Twenty20.

According to The Dawn, the PCB said that Khan would also be the team manager after getting permission from his employer, Pakistan International Airlines, adding that he deserves both roles given his vast experience in the game and in management affairs.

It is the first time the board has handed the two roles to the same individual with Khan, who played 69 Tests and 219 ODIs, being appointed chief selector last year but was not allowed to take up the position due to a court order.

Khan will be part of a three-man committee along with PCB directors Intikhab Alam and Haroon Rasheed, which will scrutinize applications for coaches that include head coach and fielding coach.

Pakistan has a Test series against Sri Lanka in July-August, then takes on Australia in a one-off Twenty20, three ODIs and two Tests in the United Arab Emirates in October, the report added.
