Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to put the banned pace bowler Mohammad Amir under a six-month assessment process before he makes a comeback into the national squad.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan said that Amir had committed a crime and let the country down and they had to ensure other players were comfortable playing against him and with him before they take any decision, the Dawn reported.

Khan further said that they wanted to be completely satisfied that he would not repeat his mistakes again if he gets a chance to play for Pakistan, adding that until now it was not an open or shut case for Amir.

Amir is serving a five-year ban imposed on him and his teammates, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, by the ICC after the spot fixing scandal broke out during Pakistan's tour of England in late 2010.
