The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday stated the next government in Jammu and Kashmir will be on the basis of a common minimum programme and added that the dialogue between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and PDP will reach a consensus soon.
"The government formation is a different issue and on that as we have repeatedly made clear that it will depend on the issues that we have flagged and that the other party might have. Some distance has been covered in arriving at consensus but there needs to be a structured dialogue to follow it up, which we hope will not take much now," PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said.
Akhtar also said that the neither of the parties could have managed to win any seats on their own.
"The next government will be on the basis of a common minimum programme. We have an arrangement because on our own could not have won even a single seat, neither could BJP have. So, both the parties need seats. We also want to have two seats; they also want to have two seats. So, a seat sharing arrangement is there but has two different processes," he added.
"This will certainly create a level of comfort between the two parties, if everything goes well," he added.
The Governor's rule has been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the assembly elections in the state threw a fractured verdict, with no party able to win the required number of seats to form the government.
Last month, a fractured verdict in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections left no party with a clear majority. The highest number of seats was won by the PDP, but the party with 28 seats fell well short of the 44 seats required to form the government.
