Penelope Cruz and hubby Bardem criticize Israeli 'genocide' in open letter

Penelope Cruz and her husband Javier Bardem have criticized Israel's incursion into Gaza and have described their military action as "genocide".

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 40-year-old Spanish actress, her husband and Pedro Almodovar demanded a cease-fire by the Israeli military, and recommended that they "lift the blockade, which the Gaza Strip has suffered for more than a decade".

In the open letter referenced by Europa Press and other Spanish media, they have called on the European Union to "condemn the bombing by land, sea and air against the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip".

Others who signed the letter include directors Montxo Armendariz and Benito Zambrano, actors Lola Herrera, Eduardo Noriega and Rosa Maria Sarda, and musicians Amaral and Nacho Campillo.
