Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader K C Tyagi on Friday said that people of the country do not cast their votes based on statements made by celebrities.

"People may support her (Lata Mangeshkar) singing. But people do not vote just on the statement of some celebrity. Everyone has the right to express their opinions," he said while reacting to Lata Mangeshkar's remarks on Modi.

Earlier this evening, Lata Mangeshkar said that she wished to see Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister.

"I give my blessings to Narendra Modiji because he is like a brother to me. I used to send him Gujarati records. I pray to God that Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister of India. This is what everyone wants," she said at the inauguration of Dinanath Mangeshkar super specialty hospital here today.

Modi, who is Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate, inaugurated Dinanath Mangeshkar super specialty hospital in memory of Lata's father.
