Those involved in the violence in northeast Delhi that erupted on February 23, had come in from nearby areas of Meerut and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi Police said here on Friday.
According to a police source, this information was revealed in a coordination meeting held at the DCP office in North-East district between the Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police officials today.
"Certain points regarding the Delhi violence was taken up during the meeting. The meeting was called to discuss the various aspects of the incident by police officials of the Eastern Range," Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, Alok Kumar told ANI.
Several officials including DCP Northeast Ved Prakash Surya, Meerut IG Praveen Kumar, and SSP Ghaziabad were present in this meeting.
At least 53 people lost their lives while around 200 people sustained serious injuries in violence in north-east Delhi last week.
Till Friday the Delhi Police had registered 683 cases, including 48 cases under the Arms Act, in connection with the violence.
The police added that 1,983 people have also been either arrested or detained.
