Protest erupted against school authorities in Bangalore on Wednesday after two girls allegedly committed suicide.
Reportedly, they committed suicide for being punished for celebrating Holi in school premises.
On Monday, Priyanka (15) and Sonali (15), studying in tenth grade of a convent school, reportedly celebrated Holi by throwing colour on each other. The students were threatened that their parents would be called to inform about their poor performance in academics.
The girls were missing when their parents arrived in the school. Later on Tuesday, their bodies were found from Sankey Tank Lake in Bangalore.
Protesters, including parents of other children and local residents, crowded in front of the school, demanding fair investigation against the school authorities.
"Our demand is that we want a clear investigation, we want to see that the death of these two girls should not go waste. We want these culprits to come out and we want a fair investigation and what is the truth that has to come out. We don't have any issues against the school or we are not against the school. The kind of punishment these people have given to a tenth standard student, imagine the amount of pressure she has gone through that she has taken this extreme step," said a parent of one of the girls, Dinesh.
Bangalore Police Commissioner, Raghavendra Auradkar, called the incident as unfortunate and said investigation is on.
"Yesterday this incident has happened and we have taken up a case on the complaint of the parents and we are investigating it," said Auradkar.
Meanwhile, parents of the deceased demanded investigation in the case and said culprits should be brought to books.
"We want justice. This should not happen to any other children, so we want justice," said grandmother of one of the girls who committed suicide, Gayathri.
Protesters alleged that school authorities of the Christian management remained defiant in declaring a holiday on Holi, which was celebrated on Monday across the country.
