Hours after President Ram Nath Kovind promulgated The Central Education Institutions (Reservation in Teachers' Cadre) Ordinance 2019, a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court against the Ordinance on Friday.
The Ordinance will nullify the Supreme Court's January order to restore the 200-point roster system for faculty recruitment under which university will be considered a "unit" instead of departments or subjects.
The petition sought the quashing of the Ordinance claiming that it overturns and nullifies the judgment of the Supreme Court in an arbitrary manner.
In January, the Supreme Court had upheld an Allahabad High Court ruling that reservation in faculty posts in universities should be applied department-wise and not by treating the university as one unit.
