Murder accused Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius' family appear confident of the South African athlete's trial outcome after hearing the defence sum up the case on the final day.

Pistorius' family hugged, smiled and kissed each other at the end of the defence summing up the trial on Friday, Sky News reported.

Pistorius' uncle Arnold described the two lawyers' performances as a competition between a Mercedes versus a Fiat.

Arnold also said that defence lawyer Barry Roux had done more than enough, adding that in just over a month they would find out if he is right.

The Pistorius family considers Roux the Mercedes of defence lawyers.

Roux fought back on behalf of Pistorius on Friday and defended the prosecution's allegations on the double amputee.

The prosecution had told the trial on Thursday that the Paralympian had constructed a snowball of lies to avoid taking the blame for killing Steenkamp, but the defence team on Friday weighed in with 243 pages of reasons why the State had got it wrong.

Pistorius underwent trial for murdering Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year. The double amputee has maintained throughout that he mistook his girlfriend for an intruder in his Pretoria home citing it as the reason for shooting her, the report added.
