Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal, who met former United Nations Under Secretary Kandeh K Yumkella, on Monday said the latter has brought excellent ideas to drive India towards becoming a leader in the field of energy security.
"Every citizen of the world should have access to affordable energy. His Excellency Yumkella has come with his colleagues in UN, and he brought some excellent ideas on how India can also move from being a laboratory for sustainable energy for all, to becoming a leader in the world in the field of energy security and energy access," said Goyal.
"We have also had the opportunity to highlight the initiatives taken by Government of India, particularly by Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency, are doing in the field of energy efficiency, energy conservation, where the Prime Minister has also taken great interest," he added.
Meanwhile, Yumkella said that he was impressed to see different ministries in India taking the message of energy conservation forward.
"I have had the privilege to meet the Minister of Railways, I see your energy message being carried to Railways by His Excellency Mr. Prabhu. It has also been pushed in Ministry of Urban Planning by Mr. Venkaiah Naidu. This is what we hope to see around the world, that consistently different ministries recognise that energy is the ultimate enabler. I am impressed with that," he said.
