Plucky geckos, which were sent into space to reveal the effects of microgravity on sex, were found dead after returning to Earth in capsule.

The lizards, which were originally sent into the cosmos on the Russian Foton-M4 capsule, turned up alive after space agency officials had lost contact with them for a time, Metro.co.uk reported.

Roscosmos (Russian space agency) said that it was established that while the Drosophila flies handled spaceflight well, developed and bred successfully, all the geckos, unfortunately, died and the date and circumstances of their deaths will be established by specialists.
