Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Chennai where he would inaugurate the first National Handloom Day.
On his arrival, Prime Minister Modi was received by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Governor K. Rosaiah at the Chennai airport.
"PM landed in Chennai a short while ago. Governor Rosaiah and CM Jayalalithaa welcomed him at the airport," Prime Minister's Office (PMO) tweeted.
Besides inaugurating the first National Handloom Day at a function here, Prime Minister Modi will confer the Sant Kabir awards and National awards for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014 to distinguished handloom personalities.
The program is being held in the prestigious Centenary hall of Madras University.
The Prime Minister will also launch 'India Handloom' Brand. An exhibition showcasing master creations of the awardees is also being inaugurated on the occasion in the adjacent senate building of Madras University.
According to reports, Prime Minister Modi is likely to meet the Chief Minister at her Poes Garden residence in Chennai.
