"Prime Minister Modi is in contact with us. He has assured that the Government of India will provide full support in this moment of crisis," Upadhyay said.

"From reports of social media and other sources, around 100 people have lost lives. The numbers may increase," he added.

The epicentre of the tremors was said to be in Pokhara, Nepal, with the European Mediterranean Seismological Center stating that the earthquake measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.
