Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an investigation of North Korea's proliferation links and hold into account parties who have supported these unlawful programmes.

"Because of the recent development in the Korean peninsula, I think our Prime Minister also shared the same concerns which other leaders had about DPRK's pursuit of its missiles and nuclear weapons and then called for its complete verification and irreversible denucleraition of Korean peninsula," Secretary (East) in the Exernal Affairs Ministry Preeti Saran said in a press briefing.

"Prime Minister pointed out at the East Asia Summit meet that it was important North Korea's proliferation links must be investigated and to hold into account parties who have supported these unlawful programmes," she added.

Saran further said that the Prime Minister also stressed on importance of safe secure and free navigation in the Indo pacific region and called for adherence to rule of law.

Earlier in September, India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at her trilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and her Japanese counterpart Taro Kono, had sought investigations into North Korea's nuclear proliferation links.
