PM Modi credits people of Australia for its prosperity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the people of Australia for being the reason for its growth and prosperity, and for projecting their nation as one setting an example before others.

"Generations of peoples, representatives have made Australia one of the great nations of the world today. From the vast strength of territory to the abundance of resources nature has been generous to you. But, it is the people of Australia who have made Australia what it is today," Prime Minister Modi said in his address to a joint session of the Australian Parliament here.

"A beacon of democracy and rule of law, a nation that willingly lives the search of lost aircraft one of the most prosperous nations of the world, among the best in human development index, a nation with some of the best cities in the world, some of the most productive farms and minds, some of its best universities and research centres and advance technology base and a nation with great sporting skills. Australia evokes images not just of immense beauty but also of a great quality

 

of life," he added.

Making a special mention of Aboriginal Australians, Prime Minister Modi said, "I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional owners of this land on which we stand today, and pay my respect to their elders, past and present."

Feeling honoured to be able to speak before the august house, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot for successfully hosting the just concluded G-20 Summit.

"Congratulations to You (Australian PM) and the people of Australia on a successful G-20. I am the third head of the government you are listening to this week. I do not know how you are doing this. But, I'm truly honored and humbled by this opportunity to speak to you," he said.
