Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended the nation Diwali greetings from Siachen, the world highest battleground, as he interacted with the troops stationed here.

"From the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier and with the brave Jawans and Officers of the Armed Forces, I wish all of you a Happy Diwali," he tweeted.

"Perhaps this is the 1st time that a PM has got the wonderful opportunity of spending time with our Jawans on this auspicious day of Diwali," he added.

The Prime Minister, who is travelling to Srinagar later in the day, is poised to be the first Prime Minister to celebrate Diwali with the flood-affected people in Srinagar. He had made the announcement himself on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
