Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished the people of Gujarat on the occasion of the state's New Year.
"Today, people in some parts of the country celebrate start of the new year. I wish them a Happy New Year and pray for a wonderful year ahead," Prime Minister Modi said.
People of the state are exchanging New Year wishes on the first day of Vikrama Samvant 2071. The event is also referred to as Salmubarak and Nutan-Varshabhinandan. Special prayers are offered on the occasion.
The people also prepare colourful 'rangolis' outside their homes to welcome guests on this auspicious day.
