Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised President Pranab Mukherjee for his unique contribution in re-energizing the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex, adding that his contribution is an inspiration to all Indians.
"President Pranab Mukherjee has made a unique contribution in re-energizing the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex. The existing institutions have to be revitalized from time to time, and Pranab Mukherjee's contribution in this regard is an inspiration for all countrymen, in the quest for building a modern India," Prime Minister Modi said, while inaugurating the Ceremonial Hall at the President's Estate.
He added that Rashtrapati Bhavan has become a symbol of India's pride across the world.
Noting that the United Nations had accepted India's proposal for the designation of June 21 as 'International Yoga Day' on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi expressed his happiness over the organisation's decision, stating that the resolution was given on President Mukherjee's birthday.
The new ceremonial hall at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi and President Mukherjee, can reportedly house about 1,400 people. President Mukherjee is expected to use the hall for multiple purposes, including receptions on Independence Day and for giving visiting foreign dignitaries the guard of honour on days of rough weather.
Vice President M. Hamid Ansari and former prime minister Manmohan Singh, among other dignitaries were also present at the ceremony.
