Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appreciated Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan for his 'Banega Swachh India' campaign.

"I appreciate @ndtv and @SrBachchan for the 'Banega Swachh India' campaign, to address aspects related to hygiene and sanitation. @swachhindia," tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

"Scale of mobilisation and long term planning make @swachhindia a distinctive and definitive effort towards Clean India. Best wishes #swachhindia," he added in his tweet.

As a part of the campaign, the NDTV has hosted a 12-hour Cleanathon, where the senior actor is currently addressing aspects related to hygiene and sanitation.

Earlier this year, Prime Minister Modi had launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' across the country to focus on sanitation, hygiene and waste management.

The cleanliness drive encourages people to sweep, remove garbage, debris and unauthorized encroachments from roads, markets and residential places.

The 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' aims at making India a clean country by 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
