Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for the Siachen Glacier on Thursday morning to mark the auspicious occasion of Diwali with the soldiers posted at the world's highest battlefield in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Friends, I am leaving for Siachen Glacier, my good fortune that I will be able to spend time with our brave soldiers on this special day," said PM Modi.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will fly down to Srinagar to spend Diwali evening with the flood-hit victims of Jammu and Kashmir, as a gesture of solidarity towards the victims.

Meanwhile, in view of repeated ceasefire violations from across the border, highly structured security arrangements have been put in place in the region.
