PM Modi meets Mozambique's National Assembly President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a four nation five-day trip to Africa, met President of Mozambique's National Assembly Veronica Macamo here on Thursday.

The Prime Minister was given a ceremonial welcome and also accorded a Guard of Honour at the Assembly.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Vikas Swarup confirmed this on his official Twitter handle and described the meeting as "Deepening the democratic connect" between the two countries.

"Deepening the democratic connect. PM @narendramodi meets President of Mozambique National Assembly Veronica Macamo," he tweeted.

India and Mozambique also signed key agreements in areas of drug trafficking, pulse trading and sports earlier today.

 

Prime Minister Modi was earlier accorded a warm and colourful ceremonial welcome, kickstarting his first engagement of the day here to deepen ties with the African nation.

"A ceremonial welcome and discussions with President Nyusi...the Prime Minister's programmes in Mozambique begin," tweeted the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Prime Minister Modi reached Maputo as a part of his four nation tour of the African continent this morning.

During his five-day four-nation tour to Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya, energy, food security, trade, maritime cooperation and diaspora interactions will high on the Prime Minister's agenda.
