PM Modi receives Liberation War Honour award on behalf of Vajpayee

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Bangladesh's Award of Liberation War Honour on behalf of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee here on Sunday.

He received the award from Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here.

"A friend is honoured. PM Sheikh Hasina speaking at Award of Liberation War Honour to Former PM Vajpayee," tweeted Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Vikas Swarup.

Vajpayee as the Foreign Minister and Prime Minister had given great emphasis on strong ties with Dhaka and visited Bangladesh in 1999.

Prime Minister Modi will later today attend a luncheon hosted by President Hamid.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Modi would meet a number of political and business leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

 

He will later this evening address the Indian community at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre before leaving for New Delhi.
