The Congress party on Saturday alleged that Prime Minster Narendra Modi's speech at an election rally in Delhi was a 'bundle of lies' as it lacked both intent and content.

"When Prime Minister speaks about 9 crore bank accounts in Jan Dhan Yojana he forgets that 7.5 crores of those accounts were opened in the 'Swabhimaan Yojana' by the UPA government," said Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

"He also forgets that the direct benefit transfer scheme is a Congress scheme which was implemented and was criticized by BJP then. And BJP's track record of protecting slum dwellers is far from legionary, everyone knows that in Yamuna Pushta, how the last BJP government at the Centre had evicted all the slum dwellers and had thrown them to Bawana to fend for themselves without any amenities. And in Modi government itself of December 2014, how slum dwellers of Rangpuri were evicted in the dead of winter along with their children is legionary and everybody knows it," he added.

Surjewala further said the BJP's plan-B is to invoke US President Barack Obama in their election rallies to lure the voters of Delhi.

"First Kiran Bedi and now Mr. Modi himself, both seem to invoke Barack Obama to woo Delhi voters, I think it is plan B of Mr. Modi," said Surjewala.

"First plan of BJP was not to hold elections, then the plan was to hold elections under PM Modi's leadership, when that failed in the Ramlila ground a leader was imported in shape of Kiran Bedi. Now that Kiran Bedi has also failed, Ms. Bedi and Mr. Modi are now bringing Barack Obama," he added.

The Congress leader further advised Prime Minster Narendra Modi to contest the elections on the strength of his government's good work.

"I think Mr. Narendra Modi will be well advised to fight the elections on the strength of their own deeds. Problem is the seven months of track record of BJP on crime, on increasing power rates , on inflation is far from satisfactory and it is desperate move by a desperate PM to somehow save the battle of Delhi," he said.

Congress leader Jai Parkash Aggarwal echoing similar sentiments condemned Prime Minister Modi for invoking the US President in his speech.

"If his (Obama's) visit didn't benefit the country after government having spend Rs. 400 crores on his security then it is our right to say that country's money has been wasted," he said while asserting that Prime Minister Modi's comment was uncalled for. ddressing an election rally in Vishwas Nagar here earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi said India has emerged as a strong country for the world to contend with.

"Some people were raising a controversy over Obama's visit. I want to ask my critics if Obama had come and there was nothing else than the Jan 26 programme then would have opponents spared us?" he asked.

The elections for 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 7 while the results will be announced on February 10.
