Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the amendment to the land acquisition act aims at meeting the twin objectives of farmer welfare and the strategic and developmental needs of the country.

The official twitter account of the Prime Minister's Office shared Prime Minister Modi's views.

"Proposed amendments meet twin objectives of farmer welfare; along with expeditiously meeting strategic and developmental needs of the country. Pro-farmer step: Excluded Acts brought under RFCTLARR Act for Compensation and RandR," the office posted.

"Pro-development: Faster processing without compromising on compensation or RandR measures to farmers. Housing for poor including affordable housing, industrial corridors and infrastructure projects including projects taken up in PPP mode where ownership of the land continues to be vested with the government," the office added.

The Prime Minister office further stated that the new amendments on the land act aims to protect the interests of the affected families.

"Cabinet approved certain amendments in Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act,2013. Certain amendments have been made in the Act to further strengthen the provisions to protect the interests of the affected families ," the PMO tweets said.

"Important aspect of amendment is to make developmental and security related works faster without compromising benefits/compensation to farmers. Present changes allow a fast track process for defence and defence production, rural infrastructure including electrification," it added.

"States, Ministries and stakeholders had been reporting many difficulties in the implementation of this Act. Several suggestions came up in interactions with State Revenue Ministers and key implementing Ministries," the tweets further added.
