PM Modi thanks allies, opposition for 'historic passage' of LBA Bill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday thanked the leaders of parties both allied to and in opposition of his NDA government for the 'historic passage of the Land Boundary Agreement Bill in the Lok Sabha.

The Prime Minister conveyed his thanks via a series of tweets.

"I want to convey my gratitude to our NDA allies for the support and co-operation that led to passage of India-Bangladesh Land Boundary Bill."

"Spoke to Sonia ji, Kharge ji, Jayalalithaa ji, Karunanidhi ji, Yechury ji, Mayawati ji, Mulayam Singh ji, Naveen Babu and Sharad Yadav ji."

"I thanked these leaders for their support in the historic passage of the Bill that will mark a fresh chapter in our ties with Bangladesh."

 

Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha passed the Constitution 119th Amendment Bill on the Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh. The Bill was unanimously passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with 180 votes in favour and zero against it.

The LBA aims at the acquiring of territories by India and the transfer of territories to Bangladesh through retaining of adverse possession in pursuance of the 1974 agreement between the two nations. Assam, West Bengal, Tripura and Meghalaya all fall under the bill.
