Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday thanked United States President Barack Obama for extending his support to India's membership in the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and the Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG).

Prime Minister Modi in a joint statement at the White House said: "I am thankful for the help and support that my friend Obama has extended with regard to India's membership to MTCR and NSG."

"India and the US have been cooperating on global issues such as nuclear security, global warming and terrorism," he added.

Prime Minister Modi also said India is a young nation and it can work with the U.S. to use this talent and youth power for the welfare of the world.

Thanking President Obama for the invitation, Prime Minister Modi said they discussed issues of mutual cooperation ranging from business, technology and governance.

"I am very much thankful to President and my close friend Obama that I have got this opportunity to meet him. I also thank the US Congress for inviting me," he added.

Meanwhile, President Obama in his joint statement reiterated the strong bonding between India and the United States.

"As world's two of the largest democracies and countries with strong bonds between our people and business, it is natural that the United States and India have deepened and broadened our partnership," he added.

The United States President also said both the countries continue to discuss a wide range of issues, where they can cooperate for promotion of jobs and investments.

President Obama also recalled his fond memories of his visit to India during the Republic Day celebrations in 2015.

"I still have fond memories of being honoured by the Prime Minister's invitation to participate in the Republic Day celebration in India and the incredible hospitality and warmth they have shown by the people of India during the visit," he added.

He also said the two nations' wider cooperation would be helpful for the developing countries of the world.
