Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the funeral ceremony of former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew on March 29.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin confirmed the Prime Minister's presence at the funeral.
"Prime Minister @narendramodi to attend the funeral of Singapore's First Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on 29th March 2015," Akbaruddin tweeted.
Yew, the founding father and first prime minister of Singapore, who transformed the tiny island outpost into one of the wealthiest and least-corrupt countries in Asia, died on Monday morning. He was 91.
His son and current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a statement that appeared on his official web site, "The prime minister is deeply grieved to announce the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founding prime minister of Singapore. Mr. Lee passed away peacefully at the Singapore General Hospital today at 3:18 am.
