PM Modi to declare Sikkim as the first organic state

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the valedictory session of the ongoing National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Farmers in Gangtok on Monday and he is expected to formally declare Sikkim as the first organic state of the nation.

After arriving in Gangtok, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a flower show at Ridge Park.

The two day conference was inaugurated by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that there was a lot that the rest of the country could learn from Sikkim.

More than three hundred Agriculture scientists, academicians, several state ministers and senior officers discussed the issues related to sustainable farming to chalk out the strategy to solve various critical issues of agriculture on the first day of the conference. Five technical sessions were also organised yesterday at different locations of Gangtok.
